LEAH DLA Hub Funded Students: Statement of Expectations
As doctoral students receiving funding from the AHRC Doctoral Landscape Awards (DLA) in Higher Education Institutions in London and East of England, you are required to comply with the appropriate regulations of your home institution, and the formal conditions stated in your studentship offer letter.
In addition, as a funded student of the LEAH DLA Hub, you have the following expectations from the Hub in relation to your development and your participation in our researcher community.
Training and Development
In line with the Researcher Development Concordat, we encourage you to engage in a minimum of 10 days of training and development pro rata per year. This can include a wide range of activities including formal training, informal networks, conference participation and professional development such as teaching. It is good practice to consider provision from your home institution, the Hub, and external providers. There are no expectations for you to attend any specific activities in the Hub training & cohort development programme, apart from those marked as compulsory for your cohort (see below).
Development Needs Analysis
We expect you to take ownership of your research and professional development. You must complete the Development Needs Analysis form annually (full-time) or every two years (part-time). The form aims to help you plan your development purposefully with your supervisor and reflect regularly on your goals and achievements. Your engagement with the form also enables us to offer a development programme responsive to your needs.
Compulsory Hub Events
Every year LEAH DLA Hub organises several in-person training and cohort development events for its funded students. These events form an important part of your experience as a LEAH DLA-funded student as they aim to facilitate community building and provide you with a platform to communicate your research. Therefore, we expect you to attend and participate actively in these events, unless you are unable to attend for a good reason (for example, fieldwork, placement, caring responsibilities, illness). These events are clearly marked as compulsory (for all LEAH DLA-funded students or those in a specific cohort) in the Hub handbook and event listing page.
Engaging with the Researcher Community
We expect you to actively participate in the researcher community at your home institution and across the LEAH DLA Hub. In addition to attending Hub compulsory events, you can also serve as a student representative for the Hub or at your home institution, or make use of our Student-led Activity and Network fund to put forward your ideas to shape the community. There is no prescribed way of engaging with your peers, and we encourage you to explore ways of connecting with other students that feel comfortable and suitable for you.
Communications
We communicate with you via your institutional email and we expect you to check your emails regularly to read updates, announcements, and newsletters from the LEAH DLA Hub team. In the unlikely scenario that your institutional email address changes, we expect you to update your record with us as soon as possible.
Engagement and Impact
Arts and humanities research can impact society in a variety of ways, and we encourage you to actively seek to widen the impact of your research. This might include participating in public engagement activities, getting involved in policymaking, engaging with entrepreneurship. The Hub is committed to supporting you on this journey.
