Vision and Strategy
Our vision for the London and East of England Arts and Humanities Doctoral Landscape Hub is to create a thriving, inclusive and connected community of doctoral scholars, drawing on the distinctive strengths of our constellation of institutions. Together, we equip students to succeed in their research, future careers and wider contributions, responding to changing skills needs and ambitions. We will provide a high quality, distinctive, accessible, responsive programme of training, enabling our students to make meaningful impacts in a rapidly changing world.
The diversity of our Hub is central to this vision. Our members range from large, multi-faculty universities to specialist institutions, with expertise spanning practice-led and interdisciplinary research, established humanities and emerging disciplinary fields. Our students are equally diverse in their backgrounds, interests, motivations and aspirations. Many work across disciplinary boundaries, including the social sciences and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and with partners beyond higher education through Collaborative Doctoral Awards and other forms of collaboration.
By connecting the knowledge, expertise and networks of Hub partners, we expand what is available to every student beyond the boundaries of their own institution or discipline. Students encounter different research cultures and contexts, build wider intellectual and professional communities, and develop the confidence and capacity to create impact within and beyond their fields. Our strong local, regional, national and international partnerships extend these opportunities further.
A Hub-led core training programme combines and extends existing provision across our members with new activities commissioned in response to emerging needs. Regular in-person cohort events bring students together, building networks, exchange and a strong sense of community. Students and supervisors also shape provision directly through a responsive fund supporting the co-creation of new training and development opportunities.
Equity, diversity and inclusion are fundamental to how the Hub operates, ensuring that opportunities are accessible and responsive to the needs of our full student community. Providing space for supervisors, students and partners to share and develop good practice, the Hub extends opportunities, strengthens collaboration and makes creative use of our collective resources.
